Fight Night: Present vs Future

This past week at Grow we continued in our second week of our Fight Night Series. This series is not an excuse to randomly punch or kick another person. Rather it is designed to really help middle school and high school students process through some tensions that we deal with as Christians.

Many times we find ourselves worrying about things. I think that you can categorize people into two basic categories…. people who care about the present and people who care about the future. Of  course these same people have more depth than there view of the present of the future but it does however play a big role in their priorities.

People who tend to live in the present:
-May make more impulsive decisions.
-Would focus on the here and now.
-Might have trouble saving money.
-Sometimes wish they had prepared more for a situation.

People who tend to live for the future:
-Run the risk of missing out on some spontaneity that leads to cool experiences.
-Over focus on things that haven’t happened.
-Tend to be very goal oriented.
-Find fewer events where they feel unprepared.

If you are like me then this tension is really tough! You want to prepare for your future but you value things that are happening right now. Our world is pretty divided on what to think. Is it better to value the present or the future?

No matter what you think you have to agree that the decisions you make impact your future!

What Does the Bible Say?

When we read about the present and the future in the Bible we find out that we have our definitions wrong.  The world defines the present and the future as earthly and the Bible refers to the future as our time in heaven with God. If you are a Christian it is so important that you realize your earthly present impacts your heavenly future. The Choices We Make in the Present Will Absolutely Impact the Heavenly Future. Live your life as a witness to what is to come for your family, friends and circles of influence.

Colossians 3:1-5
